Essentially, this is a UI for a media browsing application. My primary impetus is to be able to view more than a handful of covers on screen at once, and instead of scrolling down and seeing a second handful, to actually see a smooth continuation of the entire view. Lists of text aren’t easy to scan, nor do they seem ideal given the visual nature of film and television.
This is the perfect project for Adobe Flex or Microsoft Silverlight for some snappy, cross-platform rapid development with vast amount of GUI logic already available. The backend component would be a XML-database creator, with movie detail and cover lookup (akin to BackStage from the CenterStage project, but far more automated - point to a directory and it scans all the supported file types.) I have the database XML schema all ready to go, figured it was a good thing to hammer it, makes you consider a lot of options and all.
Future considerations would be semi-gloss finishes on the covers, possible “ground” surface reflections, when you change refinement options to have the covers rotate and show new covers, or movie details. Many options to think about!
Hopefully these screenshots speak for themselves. Shoot me an email or leave a comment if you have any suggestions.
